Welcome Guest to Charlie's FlyBox!
Jujubee Midge Adult
step: 1
Pattern Description
The Jujubee Midge Adult is a take off on the original Jujubee Midge. Adding a bit of CDC to the pattern and simplifying the body has created an outstanding Midge Adult pattern for those picky tail water fish. The CDC wing creates a parachute like effect on the fly and allows it to sit low in the surface film, with the abdomen hanging below. just the tisket for those smutting rises!

step: 3
Put the white 8/0 UNI thread in a bobbin with a non-flared tip. Extend about a quarter inch of thread out of the bobbin tube and place the tube against the hook shank on the underside of the shank. Make a single turn of thread over the bobbin tube and the hook, as shown.

step: 4
Pull down with medium pressure on the black thread and, at the same time, withdraw the white thread bobbin tube from the loop of thread holding it. If youre lucky, the black thread will slip off the end of the bobbin tube and catch the tip of the white thread.

step: 5
Pull the front end of the white thread down to the base of the turn of black thread that is now holding onto the hook and continue wrapping the black thread over it to secure. Wrap the black thread over the white, binding it down along the side of the shank all the way back to about halfway down the hook bend. Wind the black thread forward again, forming a slightly tapered abdomen, up to the tie in point.

step: 6
Tilt the hook in the vise so the point of the hook is facing away from you. Hold the black thread bobbin out of the way while you spin the white thread bobbin to wind the white thread into a cord. Wrap the white thread forward over the black thread abdomen in six to eight, evenly spaced, spiraling turns up to the tie in point. Tie off and clip the white thread rib.

step: 7
Cut a dozen strands of Flouro-Fiber from the hank, even the tips with your scissors and tie them in one eye length back from the hook eye. Wrap back over the Flouro-Fiber to just in front of the hook point, taking care to keep the Flouro-Fiber on top of the shank. Make certain that the Flouro-Fiber is tied down with a tight turn of thread that is as vertical as possible. This will assure that the wingcase does not start off at an angle when we divide the wings. Be sure to use an even numbered bunch of fibers, as they will later be split into two equal bunches. A dozen fibers is also just the right amount to divide the wing in the next few steps.

step: 9
Hold the feathers together and clip the center stem only, leaving a V-shaped cut out in the feather. The legs of the V should be at least as long as the hook shank.

step: 12
Clip the butt ends of the CDC flush against the hook at a right angle. The butt ends will help to create some bulk under the thorax.
